Santos Brasil invests in sustainable solutions

The operator managed to reduce 11% of it´s gas emissions with Programa Frota Verde (The Green Fleet Program)

Santos Brasil, Containers Terminal (Tecon) and Vehicles Exporting Terminal (TEV) operator at Santos port, managed to reduce approximately 11% of the greenhouse gas emissions since 2014 with the implementation of the Green Fleet Program. The calculations made for each square kilometer traveled by the vehicles is part of the major initiatives and part of the company’s sustainability strategy.

The initiative will be one of the company’s highlights during Intermodal South America 22nd Edition, which will take place in São Paulo, from 5th to 7th April. Over the last three years Santos Brasil invested R$21 million in updating its fleet comprised of 143 trucks and 228 tow trucks, providing more efficient vehicles in both operational and environmental matters. The process nominated as “Compra Verde (Green Purchase)”, for new trucks purchases, gives preference to the models that provide an exhaust gas after-treatment using Selective Catalytic Solution (SCR), which follows Conama (National Environment Council - Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente).

Nowadays, 90% of the truck fleet is composed by S-10 diesel, which emits less sulfur into the atmosphere. More than 70% of the vehicles in the fleet meet Euro 5 standard, that establishes the reduction of the diesel vehicles emission. “We are committed to sustainability”, says Santos Communication and Sustainability Executive Manager, Raquel Ogando. “The challenge is to make sustainable management be reflected in practice, day to day”.
