Viracopos invests in cargo management and infrastructure improvement.

New systems, the expansion of the usable area and investments in equipment and cold chamber are among the improvements.

The Cargo Terminal (Teca) in Viracopos is one of the most important and busy in Brazil. It’s responsible for 40% of all cargo handling in the import area, and it has received investments for a new management system, the WMS (Warehouse Management System), for export and import operations. The new tool is one of the most important and strategic projects in the cargo industry. “The investment presented immediate gains in productivity, management improvements and availability of information to the clients”, states Adam Cunha, Viracopos Cargo Business Advisor.

The investments in infrastructure improvements are part of the Viracopos Airport portfolio which will be presented during Intermodal South America, from 5th to 7th April. The concessionaire of the complex will take the opportunity to show to the market the advantages of the structure, systems and cargo release may offer to the users of the Terminal.

Infrastructure – In order to improve the cargo terminal infrastructure, Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos has made significant changes. The imports area, by means of the removal of internal rooms, was enlarged by 1200m² in terms of cargo releases. Moreover, the cargo receipt layout changes enabled it to be more efficient and in addition to the usable area expansion for cargo handling. Also, the cover expansion enabled an increase of 8000m² of its sheltered area for importing operations.

Cold chamber – The cold store complex in Viracopos was also expanded and improved to allow more efficient temperature control, independent entrance and exit, humidity control, and a separate area for Health Line with it´s own well trained, dedicated team. Other improvements also include an expansion of the current area, from 13,000m³ to 21,000m³.

Equipment – Viracopos has invested in new equipment, such as the purchase of 30 new 2,5 tons forklifts and high-capacity forklifts, which are able to lift cargo up to 20 tons.
